19 October 2006 | AFSM UK at SME
AFSM UK’s Special Conference At the Service Management Europe Exhibition NEC, Birmingham 19th October 2006, 2:00pm – 4:00pm
The special conference schedule was designed to whet the interest of potential Association members by delivering a sample of typical sessions that are planned as future UK Chapter Events for the remainder of 2006 and into 2007. Topical presentations and expert panels attracted around great interest across the afternoon.
After an introduction to the “Value of S-Business” from the UK Chapter President Chris Farnath, it was standing room only for the first session led by Dr James Briscoe; Consultant Psychiatrist & Medical Director of Woodbourne Priory Hospital. With a typically thought provoking presentation, Dr Briscoe provided insight into managing stress in the services workplace. Triggers for stress were revealed and aptly delivered with humour and anecdotal references that enlightened the audience. Dr Briscoe’s session raised the levels of expectation for the following items. Without dropping a beat, the next item involved the popular "Power Panel" (similar to the BBC TV's "Question Time" programme) which investigated how effective service leadership will optimise service revenues. Facilitated by the Chapter President, the panellists included Dr Briscoe, Steve Downton and Gary Wyles - Managing Director of Festo Ltd who debated the points raised by the audience. Laurie Young was handed the baton. Laurie author & authority in the marketing of services with over 20 year’s industry experience was our next distinguished keynote speaker. Launching into dispelling the urban legends of business thinking and challenging clichéd statements that drive behaviour, Laurie delivered a lively and inquisitive session that gained active participation from the audience.
The "Power Panel" reconvened featuring Laurie Young, Steve Downton and introduced Mark Turner - Managing Editor of Service Management publication and Exhibition Organiser who each adeptly responded to the lively audience. Steve Downton concluded the feature track with his insight into the services industry, with his sheer depth of understanding gleaned from his driving of the AFSMI’s benchmark VI studies ensured that the audience achieved the objectives of the day. The interactive exchange with the audience truly brought the Special Conference’s feature sessions to a close in style. The UK chapter is proving to its members the advantage of participation in the events. Don’t miss out; the next confirmed Chapter event is scheduled for 5th December in Northampton. Watch for details in your e-mail and posted on the AFSMI UK Chapter web site www.afsmi.org.uk of how to register.
